For my first post I wanted to share five of my favorite Greenville places. First off, one of the reasons I love living in Greenville is because of the great downtown area. I love its central location, its beauty and its versatility. I love that it appeals to people of all ages. I am also amazed at how much it has changed (for the better) since I moved here for college over ten (yes, you read that correctly, TEN) years ago. So, here they are, not in any particular order:
Cantinflas
Being a native Texan, my love for Mexican food is a given. Another part of me likes this restaurant for its sentimental value. On my first official night in Greenville, I ate here. It used to be the one and only Mexican food restuarant on Main Street, although that's changed now. Over the years I enjoyed it with friends, family and Jonathan. A few years back we were actually on a first-name basis with the entire wait staff (I know, try not to get too excited) where they knew our orders by heart since we'd go every Thursday. Somewhere along the line we either figured out it wasn't healthy to do this...yeah, that's it. Cantinflas is also a fabulous people watching restaurant with its sidewalk porch. Oh, and the margaritas aren't bad, either.
Coffee Underground
Yep, still like it. Yep, I'm a dork. And yes, Jonathan and I did play Uno there with some friends a few years ago, and yes, we got made fun of by kids younger than us. But I love their apple cider pie and cafe au lait. Yum.
Pomegranate
My new downtown favorite. We went to this Persian restaurant for my birthday last year (where I was wearing floppy, sparkly, 'Happy Birthday' antennae that attracted a few looks from passers by) and went again for our 5th wedding anniversary. The hummus is phenomenal, as is the Fesenjan (a yummy stew).
Pettigru Place B&B
We found this Historic District B&B a while back and stayed as a treat for our first wedding anniversary, and then again for our fifth. Jonathan definitely stocked up on the free cookies and sodas during both visits (not surprising to those of you who know him well). The hostess was wonderful as were the amazing three-course breakfasts we were served. I would get so much accomplished if I ate like that every day.
Falls Park
I'm so glad the city revamped this park years ago. During spring and summer, and often in the fall, too, people of all ages are dipping (or often falling, if we're being honest here) their feet in the river, having picnics, watching Shakespeare in the park...and I love it.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, but this list definitely contains some of my top favorites!
